Beyond Launch

Education

At Alaska Aerospace, we are committed to leveraging space technology to advance space exploration, grow the future space workforce and to retain that workforce and industry in the State of Alaska. To make this a reality, we have developed programs designed to stimulate interest in Science, Technology, Education & Mathematics (STEM) for the youth in our State.

1. Education Kits
We have created Education Kits, designed for students in grades K‑8 and 9‑12. These hands‑on kits teach rocket technology through engaging exercises and are available for checkout in Anchorage and Kodiak and available on request anywhere in Alaska. They are ideal for classroom teachers, community groups, and home‑school educators.

2. Launch Day Experience
Our Launch Day program invites school groups to visit our spaceport for an immersive, age‑appropriate experience. This program offers a firsthand look at the excitement of rocket launches and provides valuable insights into space operations.

3. FAA Spaceport Design Challenge (pending)
The Spaceport Design Challenge is planned to be an interactive learning and collaboration opportunity for students in grades K-12. The FAA STEM Aviation and Space Education (STEM AVSED) Program organizes and sponsors this exciting challenge. Alaska Aerospace is a supporter and we are planning on using our Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska, on the Island of Kodiak for this opportunity. During the Spaceport Design Challenge, students will have the opportunity to design virtual spaceports in Minecraft based on guidance from FAA aerospace and engineering experts.

For more information about our STEM programs, please contact us. Stay tuned to this page for updates on our projects, technological advancements, and collaborative initiatives in the aerospace industry.

Internships

Alaska Aerospace offers both paid and unpaid internships for high school and college students. These opportunities are available during the summer as well as throughout the academic year for students based in Anchorage and Kodiak.

One of our key internship programs is the Alaska Space Grant Program, which supports students majoring in Science, Technology Education & Mathematics (STEM) or STEM education and enrolled in postsecondary institution in Alaska. Learn more about this opportunity at Alaska Space Grant Program.

We have other partners that support internships with Alaska Aerospace. You don’t have to be a STEM student to participate. Any business, like ours, requires all kinds of disciplines to compete in the business world.

If you are interested in interning with AAC, please send us your information and interests.

PSCA Tours

Come visit the spaceport! Except during times when Narrow Cape must be closed to ensure public safety, the surrounding lands are open for recreational activities. Residents and visitors enjoy hiking the trails, exploring Fossil Beach, observing local wildlife and watching passing whales.

We also host an annual Open House every other year (even years) in September, offering behind‑the‑scenes tours of our launch operations and facilities. Check our website for announcements about the next Open House. School groups, community organizations, and other small groups are welcome to contact us about scheduling a tour. Otherwise, PSCA’s launch facilities remain closed to the public.
