Range Safety & Instrumentation System Technician I
Position Description: The Range Safety and Telemetry System (RSTS) Technician I, under the direction of the RSTS supervisor, is responsible for accomplishing the maintenance and operations of the Alaska Aerospace Corporation (AAC) RSTS instrumentation systems. These systems include mobile and fixed rocket flight safety and telemetry equipment operated by AAC in Kodiak and remote/overseas locations.
This is a full-time position located in Kodiak, AK. Work schedules vary based on operational and mission needs. Flexibility is required, including extensive travel (up to 50%) to remote or international locations.

Primary Job Responsibilities
1. Assist with the maintenance of the electronic, computer, and mechanical systems that comprise the RSTS to include periodic and emergency maintenance of systems and cleaning/upkeep.
2. Assist with required major maintenance, upgrade and upkeep tasks under moderate supervision.
3. Assist the RSTS Lead and Sr. Technicians with reviewing and updating the RSTS training program and technical manuals.
4. Support senior technicians in updating RSTS computer-based training and maintenance tracking systems.
5. Assist with the basic documentation and ongoing upkeep of RSTS procedures, drawings, and compliance.
6. Assist in the deployment and assembly of RSTS mobile telemetry systems in remote or austere environments.
7. Operate, or be trained to operate, range safety and telemetry equipment; perform entry-level duties required of a System Control Operator and a Telemetry Systems Operator during launch campaigns.
8. Provide support to launch personnel on a day-to-day basis to meet customer needs.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Office Suite.
Basic understanding of computer networking concepts.
Fundamental understanding of electronics theory and electronic safety procedures.
Ability to follow OSHA safety standards in the workplace.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to multi-task in a dynamic and complex environment.

Ability to travel for extended periods of time in support of launch activities.
Ability to work and travel in adverse weather conditions with appropriate PPE.
Ability to safely access unimproved remote locations.
Work productively as a team member and independently with moderate supervision.
Willing and able to work extended hours, overtime, and on weekends, as required by mission milestones.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
U.S. citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance; existing clearance preferred.
Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certificate, with a minimum of two (2) years verifiable experience with electronics, computer networking, web development, console operations, documentation management and/or telecommunication experience involving installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electronics.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of office productivity software, 2D/3D CAD, computer networking, electrical troubleshooting, general maintenance, construction, fabrication, hand and power tool skills.
Preferred Basic computer programming (Python, C++, HTML, etc.)
Amateur radio license.
Advanced computer networking skills.
Experience with radio communications operations and setup, high power RF transmitters, welding, fabrication, networking cable termination and maintenance.
ITAR Requirements
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
