Range Safety & Instrumentation System Technician I
Aurora Launch Services (ALS): Aurora Launch Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alaska Aerospace, established to provide low cost, highly reliable launch services on a contract basis to both government and commercial space launch customers worldwide. Position Description: The Range Safety and Telemetry System (RSTS) Technician I, under the direction of the RSTS supervisor, is responsible for accomplishing the maintenance and operations of the Alaska Aerospace Corporation (AAC) RSTS instrumentation systems. These systems include mobile and fixed rocket flight safety and telemetry equipment operated by AAC in Kodiak and remote/overseas locations.
Location: This position is based at the Pacific Spaceport Complex – Alaska in Kodiak, AK. Work is performed on-site, with significant work-related travel (up to 50%) to remote, domestic, or international locations in support of mission activities and organizational needs.
Primary Job Responsibilities
1. Assist with the maintenance of the electronic, computer, and mechanical systems that comprise the RSTS to include periodic and emergency maintenance of systems and cleaning/upkeep.
2. Assist with required major maintenance, upgrade and upkeep tasks under moderate supervision.
3. Assist the RSTS Lead and Sr. Technicians with reviewing and updating the RSTS training program and technical manuals.
4. Support senior technicians in updating RSTS computer-based training and maintenance tracking systems.
5. Assist with the basic documentation and ongoing upkeep of RSTS procedures, drawings, and compliance.
6. Assist in the deployment and assembly of RSTS mobile telemetry systems in remote or austere environments.
7. Operate, or be trained to operate, range safety and telemetry equipment; perform entry-level duties required of a System Control Operator and a Telemetry Systems Operator during launch campaigns.
8. Provide support to launch personnel on a day-to-day basis to meet customer needs.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Basic understanding of computer networking concepts.
Fundamental understanding of electronics theory and electronic safety procedures.
Ability to safely use basic hand tools, power tools, electronic test equipment, and related support equipment as trained and authorized.
Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions, technical manuals, procedures, drawings, checklists, and safety documentation.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to multi-task in a dynamic and complex operational environment.
Ability to travel for extended periods in support of launch, mission, deployment, or customer activities.
Ability to work and travel in adverse weather conditions with appropriate personal protective equipment.
Ability to safely access unimproved, remote, or austere work locations.
Ability to work productively as part of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
Required Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
Minimum of two (2) years verifiable experience with electronics, computer networking, web development, console operations, documentation management and/or telecommunication experience involving installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electronics. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered where appropriate.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Experience with radio communications, RF systems, network cable termination, electrical troubleshooting, fabrication, general maintenance, CAD, or basic programming is preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. May provide task-level support to other employees, contractors, vendors, or mission personnel as assigned and works under the direction of higher-level RSTS personnel, the RSTS Lead, manager, or designee.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by mission campaigns, as applicable.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments, including office, shop, field, remote, and launch-related locations. Duties require frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds; heavier lifting may require assistance or appropriate equipment. Work may involve exposure to equipment, machinery, electronic systems, communications systems, antennas, noise, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, uneven terrain, remote locations, and varying weather conditions. Significant work-related travel, including extended travel to remote, domestic, or international locations, may be required in support of launch campaigns, customer requirements, or mission operations. Use of company-required and task-appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
ITAR Requirements
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Compensation
A competitive salary and benefits package, determined upon experience level of individual, will be negotiated after an offer to hire has been given. The anticipated salary range for this position is $69,425.00 - $83,419.00 annually.
