Payroll Analyst

Position Description: Under the direction of the Controller, the Payroll Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining payroll records, supporting audits, and providence responsive service to employees regarding payroll-related matters. The Payroll Analyst plays a key role in maintaining internal controls, supporting reporting requirements, and ensuring integrity of employee compensation data.

This is a full-time position be located in Anchorage or Kodiak, AK.

Primary Job Responsibilities

1. Process payroll for employees by accurately calculating hours worked, overtime, and deductions. Analyze any discrepancies and communicate with the team.

1. Research payroll and benefit record-keeping issues, including sick leave and PTO and perform appropriate action as needed.

2. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and laws.

3. Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management as needed.

4. Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure proper processing of employee taxes, benefits, and other deductions.

5. Reconcile payroll discrepancies by investigating and resolving any issues.

6. Plan and monitor work production timelines to meet deadlines in reporting regulations, ensuring proper coding and accounting.

7. Assist in the preparation of financial reports related to payroll expenses.

8. Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters and provide assistance as needed.

9. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to payroll transactions.

10. Collaborate with Finance team to ensure payroll data is accurate and up-to-date.

11. Stay current on payroll best practices and trends to continuously improve the payroll process.

12. Assist in continuous process improvement initiatives related to payroll operations.

13. Perform other duties as required.

Required Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of payroll practices, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.

  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint preferred).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and mathematical skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Required Education/Certification/License:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing or similar role.

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance; existing clearance preferred.

  • Pre-employment background check and drug and alcohol screening required.

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
